I feel the biggest difference in the linebackers is the variety of tasks at hand. A lot of inside linebackers are more the downhill run stopping kind of mentality people. A lot of their game is stopping the run between the tackles and covering a lot of backs one on one in pass coverage. You really are the quarterback of the defense. Any line adjustments or varied play calls and strength calls depends on the mike. I was able to play a couple games of MLB this year and its great being in the middle of everything. As an outside linebacker you need to be a little more versatile. In order to do this you have to be able to get a consistent pass rush on tackles and running backs and be able to cover tight ends and slot receivers. Both are hard positions but very similar and the mindsets of the two are the same.

If you guts have anymore questions let me know and I will try to answer them.
